What to Expect After Dental Implant Surgery

After your implant is placed, it's normal to experience some mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising around the area. This usually settles within a few days. Most patients return to normal daily activities within 24–48 hours, although full healing of the bone takes a few months.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

  • Apply an ice pack on the day of surgery to reduce swelling

  • Stick to soft foods for the first few days

  • Avoid smoking and alcohol, which slow healing

  • Keep your head elevated when resting

  • Follow all aftercare instructions provided by your dentist

Oral Hygiene During Healing

Keeping your mouth clean is essential. Use a soft toothbrush and saltwater rinses (if recommended). Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first day, then gently resume. We’ll show you exactly how to care for your mouth during your follow-up appointment.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

Most discomfort disappears within a few days. However, full integration of the implant with your jawbone — known as osseointegration — can take 8 to 12 weeks. We’ll monitor your progress and let you know when it’s time for the final tooth to be fitted.
